Staff Accountant
Summary of Position
• Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations and other analyses as part of the month end close process.
• Ensure that the monthly close for EmblemHealth is performed timely, accurately and in accordance with Generally Accepted
Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Participate in the development and enhancement of internal controls over financial reporting and process improvements to
streamline the monthly close process.
• Support business processes by partnering with FP&A, IT, Operations, HR, and other internal business departments.
Principal Accountabilities
• Prepare monthly journal entries and account reconciliations as part of the month end close process.
• Ensure that journal entries, account reconciliations and other analyses are prepared in a complete, accurate and timely
manner and that financial information is recorded in accordance with GAAP.
• Identify discrepancies with either data/information or processes; report on them as needed.
• Provide supporting financial analysis and other documentation to internal business partners.
• Prepare documentation in support of financial statements for internal and external auditors, as well as for CMS, DOH
and DFS audits.
• Provide recommendation for process improvements.
• Collaborate across departments to improve on the company’s overall internal control structure and design; implement
best practices.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; MBA/MSA preferred
Relevant Work Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• 2 – 3+ years of relevant, professional work experience (R)
• Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook) (R)
• Ability to organize and prioritize, and to successfully manage multiple tasks/projects with competing deadlines (R)
• Strong quantitative, data manipulation skills, and ability to work with large data sets while succinctly summarizing
conclusions (R)
• Experience with Oracle Cloud or similar financial software (P)
• Strong understanding of GAAP (R)
• Strong communication skills (verbal, written, presentation, interpersonal) with all types/levels of audience (R)
Pay Disclosure
A good faith estimate of the compensation range for individuals hired to work for the EmblemHealth Family of Companies is provided. This compensation range is specific and considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, internal peer equity, and market and business considerations. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the work is being performed. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range, as compensation decisions depend on each case’s facts and circumstances. Union roles covered by a collective bargaining agreement will compensate in accordance with the union contract.
