To prepare accurate and timely financial statements in compliance with statutory accounting principles which are filed with the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), New York Department of Financial Services (DFS), Department of Health (DOH), and Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). 


Responsibilities: 

·       Create statutory adjusting journal entries, execute Oracle queries, and produce various Oracle reports.  Analyze financial data and research variances.  Monitor non-admitted assets by account.

·       Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual statutory financial statements and NY supplements for filing with regulatory authorities, including the Medical Loss Ratio (MLR).  Prepare the audited financial statements including footnote disclosures.

·       Prepare analyses and journal entries for investments in affiliates. Prepare statutory capital and surplus estimate monthly for senior management.  Assist with financial statement projections, Risk Based Capital (RBC) forecasts, and responses to DFS inquiries.

·       Prepare underwriting and Investment exhibits and analyze Budget data for Health Plan of Greater New York. 

·       Identify and assist in the implementation of process improvements (e.g. automation) in order to shorten the monthly close process.

·       Assist the state examiners and external auditors while conducting the exam(s)/audits.  Assist with special projects. Keep abreast of GAAP and Statutory accounting pronouncements. 

 


 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor ’s degree in Accounting required, CPA a plus
  • 3-5 years of experience in finance and accounting environment.
  • Good knowledge of MS Office Products. Oracle experience a plus
  • Must be a self-starter who is detail-oriented and proactive with focus on accuracy, in an environment with changing priorities and time constraints
  • Possess and apply broad knowledge of accounting principles and procedures with minimal direct supervision. 
  • Understanding of GAAP accounting and Statutory accounting
