Assists and provides paralegal support for a broad range of legal matters for in house counsel department.  Areas of support includes: legal research and writing, assisting in audits, reviews and investigations, drafting legal documents, and managing projects/cases, document management, and reviewing and preparing filings. The role may include supporting corporate governance activities including taking minutes, reviewing and drafting policies and procedures, preparing agenda and supporting materials.  Position will require interaction with other corporate departments.


    • Investigates and organizes facts required to support litigation/disputes
    • Gathers information from various sources—documents/interviews
    • Fact-finding for responses to claims and contract issues
    • Conducts legal research (e.g., sources of authorities, recorded judicial decisions, legal articles and treatises, regulations, Medicaid and Medicare manuals and guidelines)
    • Acts within federal and state statutes and regulations
    • Drafts solid legal documents and claims responses 
      • Drafts contracts and contract-related correspondence, such as term letters
      • Drafts court documents for hearings, arguments to present, discovery demands
    • Interacts with retained outside counsel
    • Makes recommendations, engages in negotiation and settlement discussions 
    • Supports other corporate departments such as Human Resources, Risk Management, Marketing, or the Risk Retention Group
    • Appears at hearings on behalf of the Company
    • Manages all legal projects to meet necessary requirements and deadlines
      • Prepares reports of pending/closed matters
    • Maintains overall case management, document review and control
      • Coordinates meetings
      • Organizes and maintains documents/responses in an electronic filing system
  • In addition to legal projects and cases needed project management, other projects could include: 
    • Supporting aspects of governance and meetings, committee schedules, policies and reviews, corporate level correspondence triage 
    • Coordinates the contracting process
    • Prepares applications and renewals for licenses and permits, and government filings
    • Provide some administrative support to the department
  • Maintains litigation calendar for upcoming deadlines, court, and attorney schedules


  • Preferred: 4 year degree and paralegal training program
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws required
    • Preferred: Prior experience in healthcare required 
  • Knowledge of health provider networks; provider contracts; and benefit plans required
  • Desirable: Litigation experience in a law firm or a corporate legal department required
    • Familiarity with legal procedures and rules of the court required
  • High level of interpersonal skills--oral and written communication skills (e.g. legal documents/responses) required
  • High level of organizational skills required
  • Proficient in:  MS Word/Excel/Outlook required
