Responsible for general occupational and environmental medicine nursing duties as they relate to occupational medicine preventive services examinee evaluations and support of patients with work related injuries and/or illnesses. 
Deliver ancillary medical services including, but are not limited to, testing required by OSHA-mandated evaluations, vaccinations, and other screening requirements (EKGs, pulmonary function screening, audiometry and respirator fit testing).
Support Contracts Marketing Specialist by providing clinically relevant information and provision of safety and health trainings to various industry, other health professionals and community-based organizations in response to grant requirements and other required educational services. 
Assist in providing nursing care and health care instructions to industries, other community groups and patients. 
Perform occupational health care and psychosocial supports for clinic’s patients and work closely with the other licensed health care professionals including the social worker/case manager for the benefit of clinic patients.  


Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate patient care of various evaluations and associated ancillary testing. 
  • Work with contracts and marketing specialist, employer/union groups and other clinic administrative staff to schedule services provided in clinic or at the worksites.  
  • Organize all required reporting and documentation and follow up with the Clinic Regulatory Coordinator, as needed as required to meet compliance and regulatory requirements.
  • Support the social worker/case manager and physicians in providing occupational health counseling.
  • Back-up the administrative staff in obtaining, documenting, and reporting of all occupational health data as required by the NYS DOH grant. 
  • Assist in workplace evaluation for occupational health hazards as part of the occupational health team.
  • Assist the clinic staff, including the Industrial Hygienist, in the development of occupational health programs for workers, unions, employers and community groups; provide information on regulatory requirements to employers as requested.
  • Present educational/health preventive programs/medical monitoring sessions in employers’ worksites and in the community; teach and demonstrate proper issue, wear and maintenance of protective equipment to patients.
  • Observe application of such techniques by patient and documents instruction in the medical record.
  • Responsible for participation in regular case management team meetings to support the clinical staff in assessing clients’ medical and psychosocial needs and making referrals and recommendations for clients into appropriate medical and community resources.
  • Support counseling services for various psychosocial needs such as experiencing the many stressors associated with their workers’ compensation case(s), the physical limitations and disabilities associated with their physical injuries and illnesses, and mental health stressors, including assessing for suicidal or homicidal ideation with subsequent referral to appropriate agencies.
  • Assist clients in negotiating the workers’ compensation and VESID (Vocational Educational Services for Individuals with Disabilities) systems.
  • Assist clients with referrals and services for alcohol and drug over use and abuse, smoking cessation programs, and human services.
  • Responsible for participation in regular case management team meetings to support the clinical staff in assessing clients’ medical and psychosocial needs and making referrals and recommendations for clients into appropriate medical and community resources.
  • Support counseling services for various psychosocial needs such as experiencing the many stressors associated with their workers’ compensation case(s), the physical limitations and disabilities associated with their physical injuries and illnesses, and mental health stressors, including assessing for suicidal or homicidal ideation with subsequent referral to appropriate agencies.

Qualifications:

  • Associates degree in Nursing; Bachelor’s preferred.
  • LPN (NYS) required; RN preferred.
  • 3 – 5 years of relevant, professional work experience, including 2 years of clinical experience (R)  
  • 1 – 2 years of occupational health care experience (P).
  • Proficient in: administration of vaccinations; phlebotomy; performing EKGs (R)
  • Ability to perform/willingness to learn: pulmonary function testing; respirator fit testing (P)
  • Must be willing to learn and become proficient in knowledge and support execution of all occupational health care exams. (R)
  • Excellent communication and patient skills (R)  
  • Ability to prioritize work with emphasis in quality (R)
  • Effective computer skills including proficient use of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint (R)
  • Ability to travel (~30% of the time) (R)
