Public Relations Leader
Summary of Position
- Responsible for building the profile, image, and brand reputation of the enterprise and companies within the EmblemHealth family.
- Research channels through which to obtain and disseminate information that helps in developing a positive image for the enterprise and its companies; initiate, develop, cultivate, maintain, and enhance relationships that are advantageous to our marketing and branding strategy.
- Work with EmblemHealth's senior leaders to ideate, develop, and implement strategies to enhance the enterprise and each company's standing in the marketplace, social media, etc.
Principal Accountabilities
- Build a forward-looking, earned media communications strategy for the EmblemHealth family of companies.
- Foster strong relationships with local and national reporters and proactively pitch stories.
- Develop creative strategies and tactics to amplify the EmblemHealth family of companies’ earned media strategy, including podcasts, influencer partnerships, online publishing platforms, and paid opportunities (e.g., advertorials, sponsored e-blasts).
- Develop and maintain a segmented enterprise media list, including regional, national, industry, employer, and multicultural publications.
- Identify and maintain relationships with elected officials, key clients, union leadership, bloggers, and other influencers.
- Identify conferences, external committees, and organizations that align with our mission and values.
- Identify trends and opportunities in health care and wellbeing to support opportunistic storytelling about the EmblemHealth family of companies.
- Proactively pursue stories differentiating and elevating our brands, mining publications, internal subject matter experts, research, and other resources.
- Draft public relations materials, including press releases, positioning papers, blog posts, executive-bylined articles, and talking points.
- Provide strategic guidance to EmblemHealth’s in-house videographer, agency, and other partners in developing content that showcases our thought leadership.
- Direct and contribute to developing thought leadership content for all companies in the EmblemHealth family.
- Cultivate a stable of media-trained internal subject matter experts for conferences, speaking opportunities, and live interviews.
- Maintain corporate and editorial calendar to amplify the ROI of earned and owned content.
- Maintain pulse on competitive landscape by sending articles, op-eds, podcasts, breaking news, and information on relevant trends to executive leadership.
- Lead work with enterprise PR agency and consultants; collaborate with advertising agencies and other partners to identify story angles.
- Lead press trainings for executives, and partner with EmblemHealth’s social media Team to conduct LinkedIn audits and trainings.
- Provide proactive, hands-on support at corporate and community events where there is a media presence. Coordinate press invites and brief executives prior to events. Provide recap of events, including photos, key highlights, coverage, and content that can be leveraged on social media.
- Maintain press sections of all EmblemHealth family of companies’ websites and intranet sites.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, or Journalism
Relevant Work Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- 10 - 12+ years of relevant, professional work experience (R)
- 10+ years’ experience in PR and communications, preferably including time spent on political or advocacy campaigns (R)
- Health care experience/knowledge (P)
- Strong knowledge of and/or interest in the health care and policy landscape (R)
- Proven experience building profiles of organizations and its leaders through earned and owned media, including press releases, op-eds, remarks, and blog content (R)
- Demonstrated ability to navigate and thrive in a fast-paced media environment, including unpredictable hours and crisis situations (R)
- Demonstrated ability to manage through influence with professionalism and poise, with direct access to the EmblemHealth family of companies’ CEO and executive leadership (R)
- Ability to build and execute communications strategies, manage projects, and build one-on-one relationships with business leaders to implement strategies (R)
- Must be passionate about mission-driven brands and storytelling (R)
Pay Disclosure
A good faith estimate of the compensation range for individuals hired to work for the EmblemHealth Family of Companies is provided. This compensation range is specific and considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, internal peer equity, and market and business considerations. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the work is being performed. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range, as compensation decisions depend on each case’s facts and circumstances. Union roles covered by a collective bargaining agreement will compensate in accordance with the union contract.
