Apply cutting edge advanced analytical techniques/approaches to solve complex problems within the healthcare payer world.  Oversight of our Cognizant Data Science support team and internal staff to execute on Emblem’s Advanced Analytics strategy.  Engage with senior leadership to embark on current and critical analytical projects including contracting, network, provider, member, group, special service vendors, and major risk delegation analyses.  Utilize extensive knowledge of emerging big data technologies to develop and build data pipelines, and to incorporate predictive and machine learning techniques.

Responsibilities:
  • Execute on Emblem’s Advanced Analytics Strategy:  Provide oversight over the Cognizant Data Science support team to carry out a series of strategic analytical projects, engage with senior leaders for executive support, and bring best-in-breed analytical techniques to the team. 
  • Respond to urgent analytical needs of the organization, present work and insights to senior leadership, build lasting analytical modules and output, and represent Emblem in analytical forums and conferences.  Collaborate with other analytical leaders throughout the company, share ideas and insights, and build good working relationships with business partners.
  • Participate in the larger development of the new Big Data TranZform Data Warehouse development project.  Specifically, the Director with focus on building a complete and scalable Data Science environment, procuring and developing new data sources for modeling, and help manage analytical sandboxes.  The Director will set standards for code management and project documentation as well as perform code and output reviews.
  • Serve as the analytical thought-leader for the organization and champion new ways of performing analytics.  Guide and mentor staff and external consultants on best practices.
  • Develop internal analytical talent through training, mentoring, and smart project selection.  Recommend/create training programs for Big Data technologies, Machine learning, and Predictive Analytics techniques.  Seek out and nurture latent analytical talent within the organization.
Qualifications:
  • BA/BS in Math, Statistics Computer Science, Actuarial Science or related discipline 
  • Professional certifications in the fields of Data Science, Machine Learning, Predictive Analytics, AI, Healthcare analysis, and other related disciplines, preferred
  • 10 – 12 years relevant professional experience in positions of increasing responsibility required
  • 5+ years’ experience in building and maintaining enterprise-level analytics and business intelligence solutions required
  • Extensive experience in using/managing large amounts of disparate data within a healthcare payer required
  • Strong health care payer domain knowledge required
  • Strong experience in performing provider and specialty vendor analytics, membership analytics, and financial analytics
  • Experience deploying advanced analytics at a healthcare payer preferred
  • Expertise using statistical tools and programming packages (R, Python, SAS Enterprise Miner) required
  • Experience using and managing enterprise BI Tools (Tableau, Business Objects) and integrating analytical solutions into these traditional BI tools preferred
  • Working knowledge of and experience with Big Data implementations preferred
  • Knowledge of Apache Spark, Hadoop & related native machine learning libraries, and other specialty modules preferred
  • Excellent leadership and collaborative skills; ability to partner with upper management on projects and garner executive sponsorship; and to collaborate with analytical colleagues in Medical economics, Actuarial, and Finance preferred
  • Staff development and management experience within an analytics shop preferred
  • Possess exceptional written and verbal communication skills required
