There is no more exciting time to be in health care than right now. Things are changing every day, innovation is coming from everywhere, and at EmblemHealth, we’re aggressively looking for new and exciting ways to make things easier, simpler and better for our members.  This position is vital to creating, establishing, and maintaining our brands’ identities inside and outside our organization. This position will manage the conception and creation of a wide array of communications and brand experiences including, but not limited to, sales materials, presentations, social media, videos, website, online and offline advertising campaigns, brand identity, retail locations, and more. This role has responsibility over creative development for EmblemHealth, AdvantageCare Physicians and other owned entities.  To be successful you’ll need to be well versed in emerging creative and visual trends for offline, online, and video; a creator and a manager. You’ll manage a growing team of talented designers and videographers but also need to lead by example and design; a strategic thinker that understands the helps put the member/patient at the heart of communications and brand expressions; a collaborator that understands and maximizes the value of in-house resources and external agencies to create the best work efficiently; a teacher and leader. It’s vital that creatives keep up and develop new skills as trends and consumers change. This position must have a desire to provide their expertise and nurture talent development across the team to ensure we maintain and create a best-in-class department; highly adaptable as well as calm under pressure and able to work collaboratively with numerous internal and external stakeholders; a self-starter that is willing to work hard, have fun and bring their strengths to not only their job, but their team, and the entire organization.  In this role, you’ll have the support of an 80-year-old not-for-profit organization that is passionate about serving New Yorkers and their families, which also has the willingness to be bold and brave; to try new creative strategies and tactics that best connect and engage people.

Responsibilities:
  • Create communications for diverse audiences. Lead internal creative team in design and production of all company communications for various internal clients, including member, provider, broker, employer group, patient and prospect communications—to be distributed across various traditional and new platforms.
  • Develop a wide arrange of multimedia creative.  Provide and nurture forward-thinking creative concepts for original graphic design and development of digital (web pages, e-mail, app, rich social media content, video, ppt) and traditional print media (brochures, flyers, postcards, window clings), finding opportunities for efficiency and ensuring consistency in execution throughout.
  • Manage and nurture the success of the department. Manage, nurture, inspire and enhance professional and skill set development of Creative Services team to meet the evolving needs of the organization and consumer consumption habits. Nurturing and developing new capability such as animation and website design.
  • Create and steward our brands. Create and ensure application of brand identities. Develop and maintain the brand books for each brand. Ensure creative aligns to brand standards. 
  • Collaborate and partner with others. Work well with internal clients to meet desired communications need, as well as review and provide guidance of campaigns and materials created by external agencies.
  • Financial steward of the department. Ensure the depart has the tools and resources it needs to enhance quality and productivity (e.g. hardware, software, subscriptions, training). Seek and identify efficiencies in the production process.  Effectively manage to established budgets. 
  • Build a network. Build and maintain a network of creative partners of freelance designers, illustrators & photographers.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in advertising, marketing, communications or related field required or bachelor Fine Arts in communications design
  • Eight to ten years’ work-related experience, including a minimum of five years of design experience required
  • Portfolio must demonstrate ability to: 
    • Strong conceptual ability and excellent design sensibility required
    • Translate complex, abstract, and disorganized information into compelling creative concepts required
    • Take fresh design approaches while showing an understanding/respect for specific audience and business objectives required
    • Work in a variety of design formats for both print (including but not limited to direct mail) as well as web required
    • Experience creating for diverse audiences crafting B2B and B2C communications, marketing or advertising required
    • Understanding of translation into other languages impact on design and communication required
    • Knowledge and experience with traditional design and emerging digital and video experiences required
    • Experience in the development logos, campaigns required
  • Expertise in Mac OSX platform, Adobe Creative Cloud Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat a must). Comfortable with retouching and altering photographs, and/or creating illustrations
  • Proven ability to inspire and effectively lead a team through multiple ongoing projects with tight deadlines required
  • Strong client-focused orientation and business relationship skills required
  • Strong communication (written and verbal) skills, including presentation and creative design required
  • Ability to act as a change agent; to operate with urgency; and to challenge the status quo required
  • Strong team player, leader, self-starter and positive catalyst required
